When Allie first started talking to me about her engagement photos, she knew she wanted something that felt a little different than the typical engagement session. She wasn’t looking for the super outdoorsy mountain session, and she didn’t want something that felt overly posed or trendy. She wanted something that felt timeless and elegant, but still fun, which honestly describes her personality pretty well.
The idea for this session honestly started because I had been wanting to do a vintage car session for a while. I had seen a few done here and there, and I loved how classic they felt. There is something about a vintage car that immediately elevates a gallery and gives it that old Hollywood, editorial feel without feeling overly styled or forced. Since Brennan and Allie were already planning a wedding with a timeless and elegant vibe, it felt like the perfect opportunity to finally bring that idea to life.
After looking at a few different options, we ended up renting a vintage Thunderbird through Jenz Benz AZ. I specifically wanted a white car because I knew it would photograph beautifully and fit the bridal feel we were going for. The Thunderbird was easily my favorite option because it felt classic without feeling dated, and it had exactly the kind of clean, timeless look I had envisioned when I first started planning the session.
One thing I have to mention is how incredible Jenz Benz AZ was throughout the entire process. They were so easy to work with, incredibly flexible, and genuinely excited about the shoot. They even grabbed behind-the-scenes footage for me throughout the session, which was such a fun bonus. As a photographer, it is always exciting when the vendors involved are just as invested in creating something beautiful as you are, and they absolutely were.

Once we had the car figured out, choosing the location was easy. We decided on Papago Park because it is one of those locations that never really goes out of style. If you have spent any amount of time looking at engagement photos taken around Phoenix, chances are you have seen Papago Park before. There is a reason for that. It is iconic, easy to access, and offers so much variety without having to drive all over the city. Since we were incorporating a vintage car into the session, it was also important to me that we could actually drive the car around and move between spots without making things complicated.
What I love about Papago Park is that it has a way of complementing whatever vision you bring into it. It can feel adventurous, romantic, editorial, casual, or elegant depending on how you approach it. For Brennan and Allie’s session, the desert landscape, warm tones, and open sky created the perfect backdrop without competing with the car or taking attention away from them.

One of the biggest reasons I scheduled this session when I did was because I wanted to capture three completely different looks in one evening. If you look through the gallery from beginning to end, it almost feels like three separate engagement sessions, and that was intentional from the very beginning.
We started with daylight photos while the sun was still high enough to give us bright, clean images. These are the photos that feel the most classic to me. The white Thunderbird stood out beautifully against the desert landscape, and everything felt light, effortless, and romantic. There is something timeless about those early images that I know Brennan and Allie will love looking back on years from now.
As the sun started to drop, the entire feel of the session shifted. Golden hour in Arizona is beautiful for obvious reasons, but what I love most is how much depth and warmth it adds to photographs. The light becomes softer, the colors become richer, and everything feels a little more cinematic. Some of my favorite portraits from the session happened during this part of the evening because we were able to slow down, let the light do its thing, and really focus on the connection between Brennan and Allie.
One thing I always tell couples is that engagement photos are not really about perfect poses. The best photos almost always happen in between the poses. They happen when you are laughing because something unexpected happened, when you are talking to each other, when you are adjusting your hair because the wind caught it, or when you forget about the camera for a second.
Having the Thunderbird there gave us so many opportunities for those moments. Instead of standing in one spot wondering what to do next, they were climbing into the car, sitting on the back seat, leaning against the doors, and interacting naturally with their surroundings.

Then came my favorite part of the entire session. Once the sun disappeared and it started getting dark, we brought out the flash.
If you know me or have followed my work for any amount of time, this probably does not surprise you. Flash photography has become one of my signature ways to shoot because it creates such a different feeling than natural light. The images instantly become bolder, more editorial, and honestly just a little more fun.
The nighttime portion of this session was the part I was looking forward to the most because I knew it would completely transform the gallery. Suddenly, the session went from romantic desert engagement photos to something that felt straight out of a magazine. The direct flash, the vintage car, the champagne, the sunglasses, and the energy of shooting after dark all came together to create some of my favorite images from the entire evening.
When I look back through the gallery now, those flash photos are still the images I am drawn to first. They feel stylish without trying too hard, elevated while still feeling authentic to Brennan and Allie, and they just feel different.

I think that is one of the biggest reasons I would recommend incorporating a vintage car into an engagement session if it fits your personality and style. Not because everyone should do it, but because it instantly creates something memorable.
Engagement photos should feel like you. They should tell a story about this season of your life and give you photographs that feel exciting years from now.
The vintage Thunderbird added so much more than just a beautiful prop. It added movement, variety, personality, and a sense of occasion. It turned a photoshoot into an experience. Looking through the final gallery, it feels like we documented an entire evening together rather than simply showing up at a location and taking photos for an hour.
If you are currently planning your engagement session and you are looking for a way to make it feel a little more unique, a little more elevated, and a little more editorial, I cannot recommend a vintage car enough. Whether you are planning engagement photos in Phoenix, Arizona or somewhere completely different, adding an element that reflects your personality can completely change the feel of your gallery.
For Brennan and Allie, that meant cruising through Papago Park in a vintage Thunderbird, chasing the sunset, and ending the night with flash photos that looked like they belonged in a magazine. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

This engagement session took place at Papago Park in Phoenix, Arizona. Papago Park is one of the most iconic engagement photo locations in the Phoenix area thanks to its desert scenery, palm trees, and beautiful sunset views.
Absolutely. For this session, we rented a vintage Thunderbird through Jenz Benz AZ. Renting a classic car is a great way to add personality, movement, and a luxury editorial feel to your engagement photos.
My favorite engagement sessions start before sunset and continue through blue hour or even after dark. This gives us multiple lighting conditions and allows us to create a much more diverse gallery.
Yes. Some of my favorite images from this session were photographed after dark using direct flash. Nighttime photos create a bold, editorial look that feels completely different from traditional engagement photos.
I recommend outfits that feel timeless and elevated. Allie’s white dress and bridal-inspired styling paired perfectly with the vintage Thunderbird and helped create the classic, editorial feel we were aiming for.
